This book is brilliant, and I have worked in recruitment for 16 years...
By Sarah A
This book is brilliant - I have worked in recruitment for 16 years and this is so true of how you should handle any recruitment consultant. Highly recommended both for job seekers and industry experts alike - my whole team will be borrowing this book once I've finished it.

The insider info is invaluable - I now recommend it to all my graduates and undergraduates
By Mrs S Denny
Excellent book. As a University tutor students often ask me for advice on job hunting. I am now recommending this book as one of the key books for my students. It is written in an easy to read format, with practical advice and examples that everyone can relate to, and put into practice.
The most useful fact is that it is written by someone who has worked within recruitment and not simply as a careers advisor etc. For years I've been frustrated by books that just don't tackle the real issues even if they are basic and obvious to some people, they are so often overlooked by the undergraduates and graduates I work with and have tried to help. This book tells people why to do certain things and not others, what to write, how to communicate and what to do to stay on top of your job search.
Whenever I talk to my students about job searching I direct them to How to Handle Your Recruitment Consultant. With so many people searching for jobs and with so many of those jobs being handled by recruitment consultants I want my students to have the edge over their competitors and I believe this book gives them that edge.
My own copy is constantly on loan to students and is well worn after just a few weeks of ownership which is high praise indeed when you bear in mind that many of these same students rarely even appear to read to the end of their subjects' reading lists let alone books!

Great Book for Job Hunters - Does exactly what it promises to do
By Suzy Campbell
Good book that covers all the basics and more. Gives insights into how recruitment consultants work, and provided genuinely useful advice. I found the writing style engaging, which was a pleasant surprise as I find most books in this area are pretty dull and turgid. This book covered the key areas but did so in such a way that I actually absorbed what was being said rather than finding I was tuning out. The book is short, but, as the author says, it is designed to be read in a handful of tube journeys. I liked it and found it very useful and a good read. Am already finding it useful and am reaping the benefits of having read this book. Would recommend it to anyone who is starting or is already in the middle of a job search.

As a recruiter can honestly say that this was both amusing and surprisingly insightful
By Sam Devlin
Having read a favourable review of this book I decided I wanted to judge it for myself (I suspected the reviewer wasn't as harsh on it as I was planning to be). Also, as a recruitment consultant, I wanted to know what my candidates may be reading. Was very pleasantly surprised by what a genuinely practical book this is, and also impressed by Henderson's approach. The title is good, and really sums up the book well. I can see that candidates who read this will genuinely have a much greater chance of success. As a side point, having read it myself and handed it around to my colleagues, we are in agreement that it actually is a useful book for recruiters to read too. In fact several of our newest consultants said they wish they'd been able read it when they started. A good read with useful ideas - definitely worth reading if you want to get the best out of your recruitment consultants. Basically 'it does what it says on the tin'. 5 stars.

Excellent. Tells you everything you need to know.
By "Wolfgang" (UK)
Really excellent book. Had read a v positive review in weekend newspaper which is why I bought it. Am very pleased I did; it covered all the areas I hoped it would plus much much more. Herbie Henderson writes well - she is amusing and engaging, a very nice style. The book doesn't try to be anything it's not, just gets on with dealing what it promises to deal with in the title, and doesn't waste time with filler and waffle (which I personally find some books in this area tend to do). Extremely handy book. It has been incredibly useful to have the inside track on what actually goes on inside recruitment consultancies, and to know how to get them to do what I want. Really great book - and vital for a job search.

An invaluable guide for job hunters. Told me everything I was hoping it would.
Highly recommended.
By Georgie Hayes
Finding a job is a tricky business in itself, but finding the RIGHT job is even tougher. Having a really good recruitment consultant (or consultants) should make your job hunt easier, but often they not only fail (hugely) to make our job hunt easier but in fact make our job searches even tougher by being sloppy and inefficient. This excellent little book plugs the gap left by the other books in this genre: the others deal with CV writing and applications and covering letters, psychometric tests and interview skills, but if you haven't got your consultant doing their job all that sort of misses the point and is somewhat wasted. This book tells the truth about how to deal with recruitment consultants and also tells the truth about what really goes on behind the scenes. Henderson has used insider knowledge and combined it with industry research and hands on experience to create a really useful tool to help you in your job search. On top of that the style is highly engaging, and as you read it you feel as though you're sitting across the table from a really good friend who knows the industry well enough to be able to give you the inside track. Overall a great read and has already proved to be thoroughly useful for me and several of my friends. Highly recommend buying this book if you want to find your ideal job!

A big little book
By "Bugalugs"
Whether you already have problems with recruitment consultants or are just starting to contact them in your search for a job, this simple book explains it all. It is clear, concise and precise. Everything you need to know (and more) is here. Buy this book and you will have your recruitment consultants doing what you want them to be doing (finding you the jobs you are looking for). It illuminates all the mistakes people commonly make and provides a clear way to proceed. The writing style is relaxed, which may not be everyone's taste, but I like it.
I've found it extremely useful and now have an excellent job I love, for which I am grateful to my recruitment consultant, and in turn am therefore grateful for this book.
In short it's worked for me, and so I highly recommend it.

Brilliant book. Genuinely useful and well written.
By Emily Marshall
Really useful. Well written. Explained a lot of things! Glad I bought it, can already see a difference in how my consultants are behaving. Am getting calls returned and have two interviews for jobs I actually want lined up next week. A great read that fulfills the promise of its title.
