Oscar Dyson Series Editor of The How To Handles

We're small, we make no secret of that. We're also a very young organisation.  Picture Bambi learning to walk and metaphorically you've got us in your mind's eye.  We will always be keen to receive exciting and viable proposals from authors. However for the moment the only proposals we'll consider will be those that are relevant to the How to Handle series, and thus non-fiction.  We intend to explore moving into fiction in the future, and promise that as soon as we do you'll be the first to know about it!  In the meantime our current guidelines are outlined below.

MONEY: We pride ourselves on being pint-sized and peppy. But pint-sized people have pint-sized pockets, so if you're hoping to come up with a How to Handle and become an overnight gazillionaire with a regular table at The Ivy… we're afraid it's not going to happen.  Nice thought though… Let's just share that for a moment… ooooooh…… aaaaaaah…… hmmmm…… OK back to the real world.

We don't normally pay royalties.   Nearly all books are commissioned on a fee only basis (you could probably consider a regular table at McDonalds).   If we do agree on a royalty based agreement the advance will not be at the level that people retire on... or even the sort that people have a decent holiday with to be honest.

UNSOLICITED MANUSCRIPTS: Short Stack Publishing does not accept unsolicited manuscripts.

SUBMISSIONS: To reiterate, for the moment Short Stack Publishing will only consider proposals for books in the How to Handle series.  Also please understand that we will only consider full proposals after an initial discussion (by email). So, in the first instance, if you're a knowledgeable, spunky writer with a wicked sense of humour, email us at submissions@shortstackpublishing.com with the bare bones of your idea:

The How to Handle title as you envisage it (though this may of course be changed).
Why you're qualified to write it.
Explain what the reader would get out of it, ie: how would the reader benefit from reading your book.
Identify who would actually read it (and buy it) ie: identify the people that you'd regard as the target readers (and buyers).

And that's about it. After that we'll get back to you and we'll take it from there!
